Personal Stories

Denis McCarthy

Denis suffered from prostate Cancer during the latter years of his life. However, he really enjoyed being on the FOPS Council and chatting with our Consultants and his Councillor friends when he wasn’t busy contributing on current Council Matters which he found very comforting as he fought the deadly cancer.

One year we went around Chorleywood singing Carols as the FOPS Choir and Denis had a melodic voice that shone through...

He was brilliant at chatting to visitors of the Summer Exhibition at the Aquadrome and helped to enrol more FOPS Associates. He was an enthusiastic 'Meeter and Greeter' at our Yearly FOPS PSA Testing Roadshows at Christ Church Chorleywood, where Denis brilliantly reassured the men being tested that they had done the right thing.

And so Denis was elected as a FOPS Trustee and served the FOPS brilliantly until he passed away on January 3rd 2020... Bless You Denis!

I shall always remember you and your humour because that is why I can spell your name correctly as in Denis with one n, as your parents, you said, couldn't afford two!

HO HO HO and I do hope you are still laughing in Heaven...
